Are you planning to spend your May long weekend in Wrocław? Take a closer look at the event that has become synonymous with the city.
In Wrocław, the 3-majówka (May-day festival) is a tradition. It is filled with Polish music and of course…. an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest guitar ensemble! It is going to be amazing – dancing at the city’s largest silent disco, singing with Ralph Kaminski and Natalia Przybysz, as well as a host of local and international artists… Sounds WOW! The May break in Wrocław is also a chance for short trips, and we have put together some tips for you.
May-day close to nature
Colourful lakes in the Rudawy Janowickie mountain range are a great hiking destination for people of all ages. The views? Amazing! The variously coloured lakes emerged in the area formerly used for mining (the remains of German mines). The National Geographic has even described them as one of the new wonders of the world. There are many car parks nearby, so you can get there conveniently by car.
Meanwhile, the charming town of Bardo invites you to enjoy its thrills. You can go rafting, explore the the medieval town centre and hike in the mountains, which here also have a spiritual meaning. Bardo is known for its gingerbread making traditions, so when visiting, make sure to taste this local delicacy!
The May-day holiday in Wrocław, when the weather is nice, is also a great time for cycling getaways! The region of Lower Silesia boasts a wealth of routes with different levels of difficulty. We recommend the routes in the Barycz Valley. The local nature is delightful, and on the way you can visit the Museum of Baubles in Milicz, the narrow-gauge railway station in Krośnice, and the architectural heritage of Hatzfeld buildings (very impressive!).
And how about a little trip across the border? Lower Silesia Railways ways have seasonal direct trains to Adršpach in Czechia. The City of Rocks impresses not only with nature, but also with delicious food.
May-day weekend in Wrocław and its surroundings
If you are planning to spend this time in the city, there plenty of attractions as well. Other than the cultural events, there’s the zoo, perfect for walks, or educational Hydropolis, where you will learn more about water and how it circulates in the environment. The museum is interactive, so you will definitely have fun playing around with the displays. Or maybe you’d like to play Super Mario or try ski jumping? The Museum of Bygone Games and Computers (Muzeum Gry i Komputery Minionej Ery) provides fantastic entertainment and is a trip down the memory lane.
If you feel like hugging a tree, you must visit Leśnica, arboretum in Wojsławice or any of the nearby forests, such as Osobowicki or Rędziński.
We hope that we have inspired you to have a great break in the capital of Lower Silesia; either an active or a leisurely one! Your May weekend in Wrocław can definitely be an exciting one!
