May-day-weekend in Kraków
Concerts in the famous cabaret and music venue Piwnica pod Baranami (the Cellar under the Rams), the holistic States of Mind Festival, and food truck feasts are just a few of the attractions On the blog, we also posted ideas for day trips in the area:
Ideas for trips around Kraków
Let’s start with the quaint town of Lanckorona. It is located only a 40-minute drive from Kraków. It’s a blissful place, ideal for a relaxing day out! No one here is ever in a hurry and the local atmosphere takes away all the stress of the daily life. A walk through the market, admiring historical huts, a coffee in a charming café and a visit to the ceramics workshop aren’t the only attractions. We also recommend visiting the Ethnographic Museum of Lanckorona Land.
To keep the idyllic mood going, stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and visit a unique village, famous for its amazing folk paintings. Zalipie is visited even by tourists from as far Asia, while for Poles themselves it is still a hidden gem. The local people are keen to tell stories about the tradition of decorating houses. Visitors can enjoy the Felicja Curyło’s Household Museum (Muzeum zagroda Felicji Curyłowej). If you are a fan of two wheels, you can get there by the Velo Dunajec route. And finally, when in Kraków, head to Zalipianki, a restaurant decorated in the style of Zalipie.
May holidays in Kraków can also feature a visit to the… mines! Yes, the mines! Wieliczka Salt Mine, a UNESCO heritage site, is a great attraction not only for families with children. You can conveniently buy tickets online: https://www.kopalnia.pl/
The mines’ history begins in the Middle Ages. Then it was known as Magnum Sal – The Great Salt. It quickly became one of the largest centres for salt mining in Poland. We guarantee that you will be amazed by what hides deep in the ground. 😉
Beskidy Mountains
The options for spending the May weekend near Kraków really are endless. How about reaching the highest peak of Beskid Żywiecki – Babia Góra? Trekking through Hala Krupowa highland meadows will definitely wear you out, but no doubt you will be rewarded with delicious food at the mountain refuge. Walking towards Wielka Racza down a scenic trail will let you enjoy stunning views of Beskid Żywiecki mountain range and Tatra Mountains.
You may also set your May-day weekend navigation towards Beskid Niski mountain range. It is a charming mountain range, where every hiking enthusiast will find something interesting. We recommend checking out the observation tower on Mount Ferdel and the Iwonicz-Zdrój health resort, one of the oldest in Poland.
We hope that this post inspired you to search for even more ideas for relaxation in the area of Kraków!
